Facial Nerve–Bone Network Research Center
Research Center Director: Dong-Guk An
This research center is a specialized interdisciplinary research institution led by researchers from Kyungpook National University School of Dentistry. Its primary goal is to investigate the prevention, pathogenesis, and precision reconstruction strategies for complex tissue injuries in the facial and oral regions, with a particular focus on concurrent nerve and bone tissue damage. The center aims to elucidate the biological interactions and network regulatory mechanisms between nerves and bones at the molecular and cellular levels. Based on this understanding, it strives to become a world-class research hub spearheading the convergence of regenerative dentistry and neuroscience through innovative foundational research that facilitates both the development of technologies for promoting regeneration and the management of intractable chronic neuropathic pain.
Building on the strengths of the School of Dentistry, the center establishes a clinical translational research foundation that contributes to functional recovery and improved quality of life for patients with oral and facial injuries. Through this foundation, it develops infrastructure for advanced biomaterials research and the discovery of novel drug targets in the field of dentistry. Moreover, the center contributes to creating new jobs and strengthening national competitiveness in dental research by training highly skilled professionals in related fields and promoting technology commercialization through collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutions.
